Intersectional Mapping

A participatory research programme exploring how the social, spatial and emotional layers of place can be mapped, experienced and understood.

Project Summary

Intersectional Mapping was a six-part workshop and field research programme developed and facilitated with documentary photographer Tamara Stoll, investigating the complex conditions, relationships and experiences that shape ‘third places’.

Moving between collective discussion, counter-mapping, walking, observation and field research, the programme invited participants to examine place at different scales — from questions of ownership, access and legality to the everyday ecologies, encounters and emotional attachments that often escape conventional maps.

Across the series, participants developed their own situated research around spaces in London, gathering data, observations and narratives that could be layered together to reveal different ways of reading and representing place.
