Ridley Road is an Ecosystem

A public conversation exploring Ridley Road as a living cultural ecosystem, and what its transformation reveals about community, ownership and gentrification in London.

Project Summary

Programmed and facilitated for V&A East Storehouse, the conversation brought together documentary photographer Tamara Stoll and Wess, a trader at Ridley Road Shopping Village, to explore the people, histories and relationships that give Ridley Road its distinct cultural identity.

Drawing on Tamara’s long-term documentation of the market and Wess’ lived experience as a trader, the discussion considered the ongoing occupation of Ridley Road Shopping Village and the wider pressures of development and gentrification across London. The event formed part of a wider public programme celebrating the first year of V&A East Storehouse.
