Project Summary

Rooted in Place brought together broadcaster and producer Zakia Sewell and artist Marianne Keating for a public conversation exploring land, migration and cultural identity through personal experience and historical research.

Produced through ACV at The Art House in East London, the event traced connections between English folk traditions, Caribbean heritage and overlooked histories of Irish migration to Jamaica, asking how inherited stories can both reinforce and challenge ideas of who belongs to a place. Hosted by writer Dalia Al-Dujaili, the conversation was followed by a private viewing of Roots, an installation by Indonesian artist Henri Affandi.
